In a day of massive change for the Jacksonville Jaguars, new head coach Liam Coen, general manager James Gladstone and EPP of football activities Tony Boselli, drops a number of experienced contracts.
Among those, according to several reports, is Cornerback Ronald Darby. The step to release Darby does not come as a shock, since he was taken over by the previous regime and had a movable contract.
Darby signed a two -year -old deal with the Jaguars after 2023 to spend with the Baltimore Ravens.
Darby had a clear connection to the Jaguars staff in former head coach Doug Pederson, who coached Darby of 2017-2019 in Philadelphia. But even his history with Pederson could not prevent him from giving birth to Montaric Brown last season, making this a logical move for Jacksonville.
The Jaguars will have many questions that must be answered about the secondary that comes in the low season in 2025. Tyson Campbell has locked one place in the secondary, while Darnell Savage and Jarrian Jones start players.
How Coen, Gladstone and Boselli continue with the application of those changes is still to be seen. But after the removal of different contracts on Thursday, it is clear that the Jaguars have been set to enter Monday’s free desk period with the need for it.
“Our group is already on its way to the races, so I’m on board in real time,” said Gladstone at his opening conference last week.
“We meet the coaching staff and exploring staff here this week at the mowing porter and we will have a lot of deep discussions about how we will approach Pro Free Agency this week. That is not honest atypical. That is what many people do. So we are in no way behind, form or form.”
The Jaguars used last week’s NFL scouting as a chance to get everyone on the same page for free desk. With an elevated dop room we will see how well the time has been spent.
“Now, I think that the fact that we are a new coaching staff, a new general director who works with our scouts, this is a great opportunity for an offsite and simply building a part of the connective tissue that would otherwise not necessarily exist because we would simply be in our normal way of operation in Jacksonville,” Gladstone said with the maaidorser.
“So we meet each other today, tomorrow and then with our Pro Scouting employees and our coaching staff who go through the first conversations around our schedule and the pro-free agent landscape, while they also work in some of the conversations specific to the design. So it is a great dynamic at this stage at this stage and really looking to more with the rest of the week.”
