The race is on. With Google who confirms a timeline in June for his Android 16-release, there is barely a quarter before Samsung to update its entire line-up (Bar The Galaxy S25) with the current Android 15 OS. It has become something of a nightmare that flagships still have Android 14 almost 6 months after pixels has been upgraded.
Samsung has now said that his Galaxy telephones will receive the stable onion 7 / Android 15 -release “in April”. This is despite an earlier announcement that newer flagships would be upgraded before the end of March. Despite various forumoderators who ensure that the delays all have to do with perfecting the operating system, that has been cold comfort for a user base that misses the latest functions of Google and Samsung.
This has been made more painful because Android 15 is an important update for security and privacy, at a time when the landscape of the mobile threat gets worse. For Samsung to catch iPhone – to say nothing about pixel – it must be faster of these new innovations to keep users, their devices and their data safe. Google continues to innovate in the field of security, with new SCAM detection that joins live threat protection and adds Samsung USB and network defenses to the mix.
A few days ago we had seen a leak that suggested that it would be half to the end of April before many of these phones received one onion 7, but now a new – and equally unofficial – leak suggests that it could come faster. Last year’s Galaxy S24 could receive their update from 1 April, says it, while S23 owners are left for fourteen days on April 14.
The timeline that is shared on X comes from a Turkish website and the leaked report. For the upgrade to the earlier timeline of Miss Samsung with 24 hours with 24 hours, only seem to be surprisingly good news for S24 users, at least after months of delays. This is even more acuter now that cheaper new Samsung gets one onion 7 before the S24.
Unfortunately for the same owners there is a new problem lurking in the background. The annoying surprise of Google for March, with two zero-day warnings, one of which is a repeat of November, has now established a warning for the US government. One of the two fixes was not in the Samsung security release in March, and that Deadline will be missed.
