Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Series of Jon Favreau in the making for Disney+

Disney film veteran Jon Favreau works together with the House of Mouse on a Disney+ series with classically animated icon Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Details about the upcoming project of the actor and the upcoming director come from one Term Report, which says Favreau will combine his live action and animation skills to bring Oswald to the Disney streaming service in the form of a TV program. He will serve both writer and producer on the Oswald The Lucky Rabbit series. Further details, including plot and casting information, must still be revealed.

Although Oswald has an important character and will always be in Disney’s extensive line-up of animated, anthropomorphic characters, his time was at the now huge company of short duration. The happy rabbit was an idea born from Walt Disney himself, but the mascot at the time only lived with Disney for 26 quiet cartoons from 1927 to 1928 because of a mix of rights that Universal checked. As covered with Our in-depth view of Disney’s 100-year-old historyOswald’s departure led to a dark period for the animation pioneer, but also resulted in the birth of an important replacement: Mickey Mouse.

Disney continued with the right to Oswald in 2006, and in 2022 it released it The first new original short -headstarts The character in 95 years. It seems that the company wants the character more than a simple representation of how far it has come. Although a release date for the Favreau project has not been revealed, it sounds like fans can expect the live action and animation hybrid to come out somewhere in the future.

While the sights of Favreau take place on one of Disney’s oldest animated characteristics, he is more recently tied with some of the latest universes. Fans of Star Wars will undoubtedly recognize the filmmaker as one of the loudest voices that push the Melkweg far, far away in the future thanks to his work on projects such as the Mandalorian, Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka. He also left his mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind and in front of the camera during the past 15 years and was even in the chairman of the director for the remake of 2019. Fans can expect that he should be directed again immediately when the Mandalorian and Grogu go to the cinema in 2026.

While Oswald is the happy rabbit ready to see an official return under the Disney umbrella, the news about the most recent appearance of the character in film is not even a year old. In 2023, only one year away from the entrance of Oswald to the status of the public domain, Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole was unveiled as a horror film -spider on the classic character with Ghostbusters actor Ernie Hudson.
