by The broad receiving market has warmed this up outside the season and even with the Washington commanders who agree with an exchange that will transfer Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers, there are numerous options for teams that need weapons.
Before we even go free desk next week, the commanders – if they want to add more to the group – could view the current free agents such as Davante Adams and Tyler Lockett, or they can perform a different trade for players such as Brandon Aiyuk (49ers) or DK Metcalf (Seattle Sehawkks).
In the case of a new addition, however, the questions will first revolve around the fit of the player in Washington, closely followed by the amount of compensation it would cost to get it. In the case of Metcalf, that price tag may be a little too high to pay for general manager Adam Peters.
“The Seahawks are looking for a pick of the first and third round for WR DK Metcalf,” reported the Athletic’s Diana Russini this week. “Metcalf is also looking at a new contract worth around $ 30 million a year.”
If that report is accurate – which we have no reason to believe that this is not the case – then that price tag is simply too high.
Metcalf is a good player, can sometimes be great, there is no doubt about it. But coming from a career-running output year and his third Sub-1,000 Yard Receive season in six, a first round pick is steep without a sort of swap taking place, let alone a third to come along.
Add that you have to pay $ 30 million a year, then, and the deployment is just too rich.
Russini also says that several teams have called about Metcalf, which is no surprise, but the real question here is how many of them laughed at the request after the aforementioned call.
“We talk to a lot of teams, take offers, see what that looks like, and yes, here we go,” said Seattle General Manager, John Schneider in an interview with Seattle Sports 710 AM after the news that the team would express for Metcalf.
We bet those offers he sees do not fully match what the reported asking price is.
